If we could wish away abuse
the Amani Center would have no use
Our staff would need to find other ways
to spend the time throughout their days
But we assure you, we could fill time's use
if all of us could just wish away abuse.
Cassy could play and ride her quads.
Amelia would dance while the crowd applauds.
Nick would study between soccer games.
Terri would give all the shelter animals names.
Ellen would take her boyfriend's son to the zoo.
Beth would be playing with her children too.
Heather wouldn't get to bill insurance.
Our medical examiners would give others assurance.
Maria would quilt and sew a whole slew.
Aaron would hit the gym for an hour or two.
We know you are worried about how we would fair.
Without kids who don’t need to come into our care.
We wouldn’t have jobs or continued careers.
Rest assured we'd be grateful, without any tears.
As we wait for the day that our grand wish appears.
When our children are safe and abuse disappears.
We hope and we wish and we dream that it’s swift
Until then we’d be honored to steward your gift.
Your support of our mission fills such a need.
It allows us to serve each child with great speed.
We're responsive and caring, a child-friendly space.
Giving resources and guidance to the right place
for therapy, healing and recovery choices,
as we offer to listen to our children’s voices.
